Proverbs 16:3

Proverbs 16:3

I'm reading through the PROVERBS of the Bible these days - and I've reached Chapter 16, the beginning of a section titled Proverbs About Life and Conduct.

It is fascinating to read and reflect on this book, really. Here in these words, I am rediscovering, one after another, short life phrases full of deep meaning and truth.

Do you dare to read and reflect with me for a while?

PROVERBS 16:3

"Commit your work to the Lord,
and your plans will be established." (ESV)

"Commit to the Lord whatever you do,
and he will establish your plans." (NIV)

"Commit your work to the Lord,
and your plans will succeed." (CEB)

We all have them. We all create them and then birth them in our minds - and hope that one day they will bear fruit in our works.

Plans. Projects. Ideas. Dreams.

Intentions. Goals. Goals. Ambitions.

Things we long for, for which we fight - and for which we pray that one day they will be achieved and fulfilled in the works of our hands and in the workings of our hearts.

Plans and efforts for our own lives. For the lives of those we love. And for the world around us.

Some of those plans and those works are good. Others are not. Some are entrusted to God - that is, they are aligned with His will and His desires for us. Others are not. Some are placed and delivered into His hands: in the original Hebrew, they are "rolled" upon Him - that is, "as one man rolls a burden upon another, which is too heavy for him alone, imploring His help." (Poole); and connoting "a sense of finality; roll it over the Lord and leave it there." (Waltke) Others are not.

Isn't it an interesting image? That of "rolling" our works and our efforts and our actions on God - asking Him for His guidance and His help, depending on His request and His help - and then, leaving everything we think and do with Him.

If we do so, if we submit everything we are and say and do to Him in the trust of a child, if we respond to His guidance and His will with unquestioning faith, then our plans and projects will be affirmed, fulfilled, and fulfilled. success. Then our minds and actions will be firm and secure and at peace.

"You will keep in complete peace

to him whose mind remains on You;

because he has trusted in You.

Trust in Jehovah forever,

because in the Lord God

"is the strength of the centuries."

(Isaiah 26:3-4)
